โจ Shaping the AI Future: Ethical and Inclusive AI Governance for Youth and All

This event came together through close collaboration with the Permanent Mission of Estonia to the United Nations, Permanent Mission of Finland to the United Nations, International Telecommunication Union, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, and United Nations Development Programme
ย
๐ฑ What made this event especially meaningful was how it was created.
Our BTF UN Youth Delegates Eunseo Hwang, Sua Bae, Yunha Seo, Ayeong Kwak, Jaeu Choi, and Dohyun Lee were involved in every stage of the process โ from planning, coordination, outreach, and on-site operations, to moderation, panel speaking, discussant roles, and leading a youth-driven campaign. This was not just an event about youth safety; it was an event designed and delivered by youth leaders.

๐ The dialogue brought together perspectives from across sectorsโincluding UN entities, government missions, academia, the private sector, and civil societyโwith contributions from our co-host organizers and institutions such as Council on AI Governance, Center for Responsible AI at NYU, Microsoft, Permanent Mission of the Republic of Korea to the United Nations, Major Group for Children and Youth (MGCY)โalongside BTF UN youth delegates themselves.

๐ We were encouraged by the strong engagement on the day, with this side event recording the 2nd highest in-person attendance among all CSocD64 side events, reflecting a shared urgency around ethical, inclusive, and youth-responsive AI governance.

๐๏ธ This year also marked BTFโs 6th consecutive side event at UN ECOSOC CSocD, honored to contribute as the only Asian NGO to do so continuouslyโmade possible through our international partners and youth leaders.

As AI reshapes societies at speed, this experience reaffirmed a simple truth:
governance is strongest when those most affected are meaningfully involved from the start.
